Eating by Hand in the Philippines

For Filipinos, kamayan (eating food by hand) makes the food taste better. Some Filipinos born and raised in rural provinces or indigenous communities still eat with their hands, but most Filipino use cutleries at mealtimes. The concept of the “boodle fight” merges kamayan and communal eating. It was born in the Philippine Army, and the ritual involves everyone coming together to partake of the food. Rank or title does not matter at the table.
